A Life of Leadership: Remembering John Pregmon

Company News

It is with great sadness that Penntex Construction announces the passing of John Pregmon, founder and former President & CEO. For more than four decades, John led Penntex with a steady hand, building a company rooted in dependability, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to client service. His legacy is reflected not only in the company’s growth and the projects completed under his leadership, but also in a culture defined by accountability and pride in doing things right.

A Pennsylvania native, John graduated from Old Forge High School and pursued a career in civil engineering, earning both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Villanova University. He then began his career as an engineer with PennDOT, followed by a role as Township Engineer for Upper Merion Township, and later with Rouse & Associates, where he developed office parks across the Philadelphia region.

In 1979, John took a pivotal step by founding Allied General Construction Service Corporation, which later became Penntex Construction. During this time, the Philadelphia region was rapidly evolving, and John recognized an opportunity to deliver something different: a construction partner that combined technical expertise with a deeply personal, hands-on approach. As the market expanded beyond Center City into the surrounding suburbs, John repositioned the company as Penntex Construction, broadening its services to meet the growing demand for comprehensive construction management.

As Penntex grew through the 1990s and into the early 2000s, John surrounded himself with trusted leaders who would help expand the company’s reach and capabilities. Through the next decade, John continued to guide Penntex through a period of significant regional expansion, extending its footprint throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In 2014, John welcomed Jim Hoolehan to the company as a principal, an addition that would prove instrumental in the next phase of Penntex’s evolution. Jim quickly became a key leader within the organization, bringing both operational expertise and a forward-looking perspective on growth. By 2016, Jim became a co-owner, and in 2017, he stepped into the role of President, working alongside John to shape the company’s strategic direction.

This intentional transition reflected John’s long-term vision for Penntex. He recognized not only the importance of growth but also that of continuity without losing the values on which it was built. In 2021, John officially retired, and Jim became the sole owner of Penntex Construction.

Jim reflects, “John and I shared similar beliefs in the way business should be conducted and how people should be treated, which made our partnership work and grow. I was very fortunate to know him, learn from him, and quickly become friends. I cherish the time we spent together, especially shooting sport clays, hunting, and fishing – things he truly enjoyed. I am very fortunate to have known John. He was a great man, and those who knew him will miss him dearly.”

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John will be remembered for his discipline, his passion for the outdoors, and his deep dedication to his family. A lifelong sportsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, time on the water, and annual trips with close friends. He shared 57 years of marriage with his wife, Patricia, and took great pride in their children and grandchildren.

John’s impact on Penntex and on the many people who had the opportunity to work with him is lasting. His vision created the foundation. His leadership shaped the culture. At Penntex, we remain committed to carrying that legacy forward, continuing to build better every day.

"John was an honest man who believed that everything we did should be grounded in integrity, transparency, safety, accountability, and passion; values that live on today as the Core Values of Penntex." - Jim Hoolehan
